2010 SPRING SEMESTER CLASSES OFFERED

The CoIS Enrichment Program offers students of all ages great fun in a stimulating environment.  CoIS has offered chess club, baton-twirling, kickboxing, guitar, drums and other types of activities in the past.  Please let the front office know if you have any suggestions for great activities to offer in upcoming sessions.

Classes from 3-4 p.m. are primarily for elementary students and classes from 4-5 p.m. serve the preschool and kindergarten aged students.  Language classes can be expanded as needed.  An additional Spanish Class on Thursday afternoons has already been requested; please let the front office know if you are interested in Spanish Class that day as well as Tuesday.  Arabic is being organized and the class day will depend on interest and demand.  Please let the front office know if you are interested in Arabic classes or other classes such as Adult Spanish.

Ambassador Club:
Classes from 8-9 a.m. are for preschool students.  This class rotates among CoIS staff members who teach a variety of topics at this time in a comparative manner:  gardening, reading, fairy tales, theater, sports and cooking.  The goal is to enrich students while preparing them for their school day.

Mandarin Club (age 7+):
Taught in Mandarin by Ms. Jie, this class will focus on science foundations and experiments while building a solid foundation in the Mandarin language.

Mandarin Fun and Games (age preK/K):  Ms. Lydia will introduce students to a variety of fun games and activities in Mandarin, such as Musical Games, Origami and other activities that will promote speaking Mandarin while having fun. Mondays 4:00 – 5:00 PM (17 weeks)

German Language (age 10+):  Ms. Birgit teaches beginning German to upper elementary and middle school students, focusing on a defined sequence of German language acquisition. Mondays 4:00 – 5:00 PM (17 weeks)

Spanish Fun and Games (preK/K): Ms. Yoly shows young students how to have fun in Spanish-speaking countries with great games, including sapo from her home country of Peru. Tuesdays 4:00- 5:00 PM (19 weeks)

AP French: Mme. Sandra teaches advanced French to middle and high school students with more intensive sessions in the spring to prepare interested students to take the Advanced Placement French language and literature exams. Wednesdays 3:00- 5:00 PM (19 weeks)Regular Fee $430
Japanese Class (age 7+): Ms. Mika teaches beginning Japanese to older students, focusing on oral proficiency and foundations for grammar, reading and writing. Wednesdays 3:00- 4:00 PM (19 weeks)

Japanese Crafts and Games (preK/K): Ms. Mika teaches great games and crafts from Japan to younger students and shows the Japanese cultural origins of favorite cultural references here (like Pokemon). Wednesdays 4:00- 5:00 PM (19 weeks)

German Saturday School: CoIS is delighted to offer a fully-accredited German Saturday School for all age levels and language proficiencies.  From preschool to high school, CoIS’ German Saturday School will provide interested students with a defined curriculum sequence and German language exams.  For more information, please contact the front office.  The hours of operation for the German Saturday School are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 32 Saturdays in 2009-2010.
