Yolanda Perez, Spanish preK/K
My name is Yolanda Perez (Yoly) and I was born in Lima, Perú. I have been living in Denver for the past ten years. I have been married to Romulo Patino for 36 years and we have three children; Claudia, Ruben and Felipe and two beautiful grandchildren; Kamber and Ian.I have a BA. degree from D’Youville College (Buffalo, New York) in Spanish and Education, a Degree in Business Administration, and I am working towards my Preschool Director Certificate.I am passionate about my work with young children. I feel that it is very nourishing and rewarding to guide and teach them. They have so much love to share with you and there is nothing more important than to know that you can really make a difference in a child’s life.As a Preschool teacher I follow guidelines for “developmentally appropriate practices”.I plan activities that reflect the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of all children in my classroom.
I provide open-ended activities and teach “letter and number” mostly trough games and fun activities, rather than just memorization and printing.
I allow my children to learn at their own pace.
I like to include a variety of activities in Pre-Math, Science, Social Games, Language, Music and Movement, Fine Motor and Finger plays, Gross Motor, Creative Drama, and Art.
I focus on skills in the following areas: Physical, Social/Emotional, Communication/Language, and thinking.
I am very flexible; the mood of the children often dictates the changes on my lesson plans. I do the necessary review but trying not to bore.
I give the children choices but always making sure that they understand that a classroom rule is not the same as a choice. For example: They can choose the color of crayons to use on their art project, but they may not choose whether or not to put the blocks away after playing with them.
I am consistent in daily routine, even on “party” days, because children like structure and they feel more comfortable knowing what comes next and what is expected from them. If by any chance it is imperative to make changes I make sure to let the children know in advance.
I always plan a few activities that will result in classroom decorations created by the children. They love to see their work hanging on the walls.
It is one of my most important goals to make “Social Development” (getting along with others and problem solving) a priority, and foster creativity as much as possible. |
